BENAVIDES
Oscar Rangel Benavides passed away May 5, 2000. He was 75.
He is preceded in death by his wife Grace Valdez Benavides of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Survivors include three sons, Oscar Benavides of Austin, Texas, Richard Benavides of Dallas, Texas, David Benavides of Irving, Texas; two brothers, Bill Benavides, Jr. (Delphine) of Corpus Christi, Texas and Oliver Benavides (Becky) of Corpus Christi, Texas; two sisters, Viola Sanchez of Corpus Christi, Texas and Norma LaFleur (Jerry) of Menominee, Michigan; numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial Rosary will be held on Wednesday May 10, 2000 at 7:00 p.m. at New Funeral Options.
FOLCKEMER
Marian Avery Folckemer, 94 passed away on May 8, 2000. She was born March 18, 1906 in Cleveland, Ohio.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, May 13, 2000 at 3:00 p.m. in the Seaside Chapel. Interment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park Cemetery.
HARVARD
Eva Mae Harvard passed away on Monday, May 8, 2000 in a local hospital. She was 95. She was one of the first persons to do Hospice in Corpus Christi, Texas also worked with the Welcome Wagon and helped many people.
Eva was a resident of Corpus Christi, Texas since 1936. She retired from Litchenstein Department Store after 20 years of service.
She is preceded in death by her husband Everett Harvard.
She is survived by her daughters, Jean (Vic) Lauderdale, Mary (Carroll) Carter all of Corpus Christi; her sons, Thomas (Mary) Harvard of Corpus Christi, Texas, H. Lee (Joanne) Harvard of Roswell, New Mexico, Larry (Terry) Harvard of Dallas, Texas; eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2000 at Seaside Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2000 at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, 622 Airline Rd., Corpus Christi, Texas with Rev. Ken Parks officiating.
HERNANDEZ
Esvita "Mama Vita" R. Hernandez, 87, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2000.
Procession will depart at 10:00AM on Wednesday, May 10, 2000 with Rites of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30AM, St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Interment will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park.
HUCKER
ARANSAS PASS, TX - Tammy Jeaneane Hucker, 38, a life long resident of Aransas Pass, Texas, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2000 at a local hospital. She was born November 18, 1961 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Truman Eugene and Johnnie Taylor. She was a member of the Church of Our Savior Episcopal Church in Aransas Pass and attended Del Mar College in Corpus Christi.
She was preceded in death by her father, Gene Taylor and her uncle, Bobby Floyd Galbreath. Tammy Hucker, everyones favorite is survived by: her loving husband of twenty-two years, Kenneth Hucker of Aransas Pass, her son: Taylor Hucker also of Aransas Pass, her mother, Johnnie Taylor, three sisters: Sherry (Earl) Shedd, Kathy Guilinger and Kandy Taylor, all of Aransas Pass and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin Tuesday, May 9, 2000 at 12:30 PM until 9:00 PM at Charlie Marshall Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 10, 2000 at 11:30 AM at the Charlie Marshall Funeral Home Chapel, Aransas Pass, Texas. Burial will follow at Aransas Memorial Park.
MARTIN
Gladys V. Martin, 81, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2000. Arrangements pending with Cage-Mills Funeral Home.
PARRY
Raphael Pinkney ("R.P.") Parry, Jr., 71, who was born and raised in Corpus Christi, passed away on May 8, 2000, at a local hospital. R.P. was born on July 30, 1928, in Corpus Christi, Texas to Raphael P. Parry, Sr. and Mina Rope Parry. He graduated from Sundeen School in 1945 and the following year he joined the Army, where he was stationed in Italy. In 1954, R.P. graduated from Texas A&I University in Kingsville with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. Later that year, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army. While stationed in the Canal Zone, Panama, R.P. met his future wife, Lucille Giguere, and they married on September 22, 1956, in Rhode Island. During his 23 year Army career, R.P. served in Thailand, two tours of Vietnam, and two tours of German, as well as being stationed in Texas, Alabama, Michigan and Maryland. He was awarded two Bronze Star Medals and he retired from the Army with the rank of Major in 1974. R.P. served on the Mayor's Task Force for Veterans Affairs and was active in various organizations. An avid reader, R.P. enjoyed local history and wrote regularly for his retirement community's newsletter.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille; three children, Renee, Raphael III (Constance), and Rachelle; his sister, Betsy Barbara; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on May 11, 2000 at Seaside Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2000 at the Seaside Chapel.
Interment will follow at Sunshine Cemetery at Wooldridge an Rodd Field Roads.
REYES
Alberto M. Reyes, accepted the Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized in the name of Jesus according to the Holy Scriptures in ACTS 2:38 for the remission of all his sins. He was 73.
He attended and was a member of the Primera Iglesia Pentecostal Unida.
He is survived by his wife, Francisca C. Reyes, five sons, Albert Reyes Jr., Daniel Reyes, Ricardo Reyes, Eddie Reyes, a daughter, Rosemary Garza all of Corpus Christi, Texas; David Reyes of California; 16 grandchildren, 12 step-children, and 49 step-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2000 with a prayer service to be recited at 6:00 p.m. that evening in the Seaside Chapel.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2000 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
RICE
Hazel Marie Rice, 79, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2000 at a Mustang, Oklahoma health care facility after a period of failing health.
She was born May 26, 1920 in Henryetta, Oklahoma to Wayne and Johnnie Evans Steidley. She had lived most of her life in Corpus Christi, Texas where she had worked and ultimately retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone as an operator. She was a member of the SW Bell Pioneers.
Hazel is preceded in death by her husband Inmon Bennett Rice, her son Norman Wayne Rice and her granddaughter Wanda Cook.
She is survived by her children, Don (Ruth) Stanley of Austin, Sharon (Dick) Radeka of Mustang, Oklahoma, Sheila (Jim) Case of Fort Scott, Kansas and Alan (Sylvia) Rice of Corpus Christi; stepdaughter, Joan Marten of Bakersfield, California; ten grandchildren, Merrill, Gerald and Deanna Stanley, Tony and Trent Case, Steve, Curtis and Brian Paul, Crystal and Dustin Rice; three great-grandchildren, Blake Murray, Sierra Paul and Collin Case. She was loved by not only her family but also a multitude of dear friends. Her only desire in life was for everyone to love each other and be happy.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM., Tuesday, May 9, 2000 at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors Everhart Chapel. Family will greet friends from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM. The funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM., Wednesday, May 10, 2000 at Cage-Mills Everhart. Reverend Buddy Murphrey to officiate. Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
QUINONEZ
ROBSTOWN - Roberto Gonzalez Quinonez, 52, of La Porte, Texas, passed away on April 30, 2000. He was born September 1, 1947 in Robstown, Texas. Roberto was a loving, gentle and generous man with a big caring heart. He was surrounded by endless friends who never left his side. He will be greatly missed and his memory will live on forever. He is preceded in death by his parents: Fernando and Rafaela Quinonez.
He is survived by his wife: Sarah Quinonez of La Porte, his children: Bobby Quinonez and wife, Melinda of Corpus Christi, Shawn Bean of La Porte, and Artie Bean and wife, Deidre of Baytown, his brothers and sisters: Juanita Contreras and husband Eleno of Robstown, Manuela Carrillo and husband David of Corpus Christi, Fernando Quinonez and wife Rafaela of Driscoll, Audelia (The Late Benito) Soto, Guadalupe Elizondo and husband Ricardo all of Robstown, Ofelia Castillo of Pasadena, and Delia (The Late Pete) Mercado of Corpus Christi, his grandchildren: Abby Quinonez, Justin Quinonez, Daygon Bean and Graycie Bean, 39 nieces and nephew, 86 great-nieces and nephews, and 34 great-great nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held on May 2, 2000 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in La Porte, Texas. Burial followed in La Porte Cemetery.
SHROPSHIRE
Caroline Shropshire, 77, passed away May 9, 2000 in a local hospital.
She was born June 10, 1922, in Hastings, Nebraska, to Charles and Lillian Higgins. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and a member of the Spohn Auxiliary for 35 years.
She is survived by her husband, Joe D. Shropshire, of 55 years; her son, S. Mike Shropshire, of Corpus Christi; her daughter, Kathleen M. (Mike) Mulvey of Corpus Christi; two granddaughters, Chris (Keith) Tillinger and Meredith Shropshire, both of Houston; two grandsons, Aaron and Kerry Mulvey of Corpus Christi; and daughter-in-law, Nancy Shropshire of Corpus Christi.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2000 at St. Pius X Catholic Church.
SMITH
Mr. John F. Smith, Jr. 75, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 6, 2000. Graveside services will begin on Tuesday, May 9, 2000 at Forest Park Cemetery at 2pm. Officiating will be Rev. Steve Caraway, Pastor of Noel Methodist Church, assisted by family members. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Osborn Funeral Home on Tuesday.
Mr. Smith was a native of Shreveport, Louisiana and a resident of Corpus Christi. Texas for thirty-four years. He was a member of St. John's Methodist Church in Corpus Christi, an Admiral in the Texas Navy. Past Commander of the United States Power Squadron-Corpus Christi, a member of the Elk's Lodge and a 32nd degree Mason-life member. A graduate of Fair Park High School, Mr. Smith attended Louisiana State University before joining the Marine Corp. In the "first wave" of the assaults on Iwo Jima, Saipan and Tinian, Mr. Smith was attached to the First, Second, Third, and Fifth Divisions. Distinguishing himself under fire, he received the Bronze Star for his heroism and bravery beyond the call of duty. After a long lengthy career in the oil and gas industry, Mr. Smith remained active as a pipeline consultant. Along with his wife, he enjoyed traveling around the country.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his mother and father, John and Fern Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Mary Mouton Smith; one daughter, Paula (Pat) Kolda of Corpus Christi; one son, John Gregory (Berkley) Smith of Clear Lake, Texas; six grandchildren to whom he was affectionately known as "Dee-Daddy", Shaun Smith, Houston, Crystal (Rudy) Miranda, Clear Lake, Zachary and Ian Kolda, Corpus Christi and Tanner and Hanna Smith, Clear Lake; two great-grandchildren, Christian Davidson-Smith and Avery Miranda of Clear Lake, Texas; one sister, Margaret Ann (Dusty) Rhodes of Shreveport, Louisiana; two nephews; and many dear friends.
The family requests that memorials be make to the charity of the donor's choice.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the wonderful people of Sardis Lake Park in Mississippi, especially Harry Upton and Jimmy Davenport.
TOMPKINS
Betty McFadden Tompkins passed away Sunday, May 7, 2000 at the home of her daughter in Cypress, Texas, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Betty was born in Winters, Texas on February 17, 1932. She was a member of the 11th Street Church of Christ and was an active member of the Corpus Christi Audubon Outdoor Club. She retired from A.G. Edwards Co. in June, 1999.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Wesley Tompkins.
She is survived by four daughters: Marion Tompkins Selman (Ron) of Shreveport, Louisiana, Sandra Tompkins Hickman (Dennis) of Wichita, Kansas, Sarah Tompkins Wood (Ron) of Beaumont, Texas and Judith Ann Tompkins of Cypress, Texas; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; sisters, Nila Wilson of Corpus Christi and Ruth Stanley of Austin; and two brothers, Joe McFadden and Jack McFadden both of Corpus Christi.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2000, with the family present from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 11, 2000 at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Rodney Duis officiating.
The eulogy will be delivered by Roy Ebert, the songs led by Jerry Roberts, and Rick Stanaland and a prayer offered by Bob Byrd.
Honorary pallbearers will be Allan Wesley Selman, Merrill Laine Stanley, Gerald Wayne Stanley, Mark Allen Wilson, Eric Paul Stanaland, Ronald Wesley Byrd, Richard Andrew Byrd and Russell Lawrence Byrd.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make contributions to the American Cancer Society or the Corpus Christi Audubon Outdoor Club.
